Staying at Home for the Greater Good
The COVID-19 pandemic is
the defining global health crisis of our time and the greatest challenge we
have faced in a long time. Since its emergence in Asia late last year, the
virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica. Cases are rising daily
in Africa, America, and Europe. Countries are racing to slow the spread of the
virus by testing and treating patients, carrying out contact tracing, limiting
travel, quarantining citizens, and cancelling large gatherings such as sporting
events, concerts, and schools.
The
outbreak of coronavirus disease has been declared a public health emergency of international
concern; therefore, it is important for everyone to take precautionary measures
to protect ourselves and loved ones from coronavirus.
The
world has recorded a total of 1,365,004
confirmed cases of corona virus and 76,507 deaths as at 7th April
2020. Here in Nigeria, new cases of coronavirus are reported every day and has
currently spread across 15 states.
Every individual has a role to play to help stop the spread of the
virus. We can heal the world by doing the right thing. And the right thing to
do at this time is to stay at home and be safe because at the moment there is
no vaccine to prevent a person from getting infected and there is no cure yet,
although a series of clinical trials are being carried out but there is no
approved treatment for the disease at the moment. Therefore, the importance of
staying at home cannot be overemphasised, stay
at home in order to reduce the chances of contracting or spreading the virus.
If more people abide by this, then there is a high probability that we will be
able to stop the spread and properly manage the number of confirmed cases.
Stay
at home if you have no reason being outside, you can save lives by staying at
home. Let us all play our parts.
